The BIGGEST Halloween Freebie We’ve Ever Seen

September 29, 2021

Spooky season is upon us!

Time for cooler temperatures and all things pumpkin! Speaking of Halloween, did you know Gabrielle (Teaching Special Thinkers) and I have an entire FREE mini unit dedicated Halloween?? It has all the greatness of a Made For Me Literacy unit, but it’s compact… and free!!

Whether you teach preschool, kindergarten, early elementary, special education, or are a parent looking for homeschool, afterschool or supplemental curriculum to help your child learn at home in addition to their public school requirements, we have the BEST Halloween lesson plans for you!

MFML’s adapted book pieces, visual recipes, an anchor chart, story maps, assessments, task boxes, file folders, and cut and paste worksheets, gives you something for all your pupils!

A variety of Halloween themed story maps, assessments, worksheets, pumkin crafts, task boxes, file folders, and visual recipes with a young child using a digital device for boom cards to go with adapted pieces for a storybook.

This week’s worth of Halloween themed activities for kids includes:

  • Story map visuals
  • Adapted pieces to accompany this unit’s story, “It’s Pumpkin Day, Mouse!”
  • Printable and interactive assessments to accompany the read-aloud
  • Anchor Chart with predictable sentences
  • Jack-O-Lantern craft with step-by-step visual directs
  • Class book with writing prompt
  • 2 math tasks that can be formatted as a file folder or a task box (each with 2 levels)
  • 2 ELE tasks that can be formatted as a file folder or a task box (each with 2 levels)
  • 4 cut-and-paste worksheets (each with 2 levels)
  • Visual recipe for pumpkin cookie
  • Visual recipe sequencing cards and reflection page worksheet
  • Vocabulary posters

While we refer to all our free sample lesson plans as “mini units,” they are far from being small.

We include a variety of material, so you too understand why teachers love our products.

All Free MFML Curriculum Mini Unit Lesson Plans Include:

READ-ALOUD PRINTABLES: To help engage early learners and special education students and enhance comprehension of the story, we have provided digital and printable assessments, Story Map pieces, and adapted book pieces.

A variety of Halloween themed worksheets, pumpkin crafts, with a young child gluing a jack-o-lantern craft and class book

BOTH A CRAFT AND A CLASS BOOK: Students will love incorporating fine motor skills as they rip paper for this tear-and-glue jack-o-lantern craft! You can even use the writing prompt to assemble this as a class book for students to read!

Halloween themed visual recipe and reflection worksheet with a child holding a jack-o-lantern frosted cookie.

VISUAL RECIPE AND REFLECTIONS: Cooking is one of our favorite classroom activities. Not only is cooking in the classroom motivating to students, but it also incorporates so many important life skills for children, following directions, speech, math, and reading.

As a bonus, all our classroom recipes include printable step-by-step sequencing cards and visual reflection cards for your students to complete.

Beginning sounds task box and file folder with pumpkins, spiders and other spooky themes for this free Halloween and October lesson plan.

INDEPENDENT WORK TASKS: Whether you’re Team Task Box or Team File Folder, you can have the best of both words with these independent work tasks! All 4 tasks are formatted to work as either option, and labels are provided for both. (Each activity has 2 levels of differentiation, so it’s basically 8 tasks in one!)

CUT AND PASTE WORKSHEETS: We LOVE the hands on learning that cut and paste activities provide. Students will love counting Halloween objects, exploring beginnings sounds, and practice patterning with these fun worksheets. (Teacher hack: laminate these tasks and add Velcro to use them over and over!)
