FAQ: Task Boxes

August 26, 2017

How do the Original Task Box Bundle and the monthly set differ?

After creating the original set of task boxes, it was requested that I make more task boxes. I figured the best way to continue the activities, but keep them different was to create a monthly series of task boxes.

  • Both bundles contain activities that range between Pre K and 1st grade skill level.
  • Activities will differ between the bundles and will not be duplicated or repeated
  • Both bundles will contain 2 levels of difficulty for each task box

What are the benefits of task boxes?

    • With 2 levels of differentiation, each bundle is guaranteed to reach a wide variety of skill levels
    • Students begin to establish independence while reinforcing mastered skills and basic concepts
    • The simple streamlined design of the these activities make it easy for teachers, paraprofessionals, and substitute teachers to implement.
    • Quality clip art and easy-to-read fonts are engaging without being overstimulating

How do you implement these in the classroom?

You can read more about my task box set-up here.

To learn strategies about instilling independence, click here.

Will you be making a higher level set of activities?

Yes, this is on my to do list! So far, a math set has been created.

What to Expect:

  • Math, language arts, science, and social studies task boxes focusing on 2nd – 3rd grade level skills
  • More age-appropriate clip art and high-quality stock photos with real images
  • Differentiated skill levels for each concept

Can I use task boxes in my general education classroom?

Absolutely! I have had many regular education teachers use these as independent activities. They are perfect for early finishers and keeping students occupied during small group lessons.

Where do you purchase the colored boxes?

I purchase the craft and photo keepers from Michael’s, but they can also be found on Amazon. Michael’s usually has sales, but they often sell out quickly and temporarily.

Please note: color selection and availability varies from site to site.

Do I need the colored photo keepers?

No, the activities were designed to be no larger than 4×6” in size.

Pencil boxes and Ziploc bags make for great storage containers as well.

Do you have data sheets?

Yes! Check out my free data sheets and covers here!

How can I store my task boxes?

I like to store my task boxes in ziploc bags when not in use. This allows me to swap out the contents and reuse the colored task boxes as needed. I store the Ziploc bags in Sterilite containers, using labels that I’ve made on Teachers Pay Teachers.

See how I store my task boxes in this video.

I have these tasks and they are amazing! I’ve set them up in 6×9 laminated envelopes with the label on the front! These have made “quiet work” so successful!

I love your task boxes! Instead of taping the label to the front I have a velcro dot attached to the photo storage box that makes it easy to swap out. Thank you for your amazing resources!

I love the monthly task boxes to give variety throughout the year and am a huge fan of the photo boxes from Michaels for daily use and organization. Is there any thoughts on extending the months to include 16 task boxes instead of the 12 because my type A personality is struggling with the numbers not matching up for the photo boxes?

Ha ha! Lynn, I totally understand the need for order! I’m a type A myself. Whew! I wish I had the stamina to put out another four months, but it took one very long year to do the bundle, so I was very excited when I completed those 12. <3

Hi Norma! Did you read Diona’s blog? She homeschools two young children who love the challenge of task boxes. I have a variety of boxes for your needs on Teachers Pay Teachers. I also have some free task boxes. Thank you for your question!

Hello, I was wondering if there were any task box packs that are only behavior, expectations, rules, and social emotional based? I noticed on TPT that the monthly task boxes each had some of these in the pack. I work in the Recovery Room at my school, which is kindergarten only, and I would love to have a pack that had just these in it. I think they would be an amazing resource in my room.

Hi! While I don’t currently have anything specific to just social skills, we are in the process of starting our very first Made For Me Literacy social skills curriculum, which sounds like it will be a great fit for what you’re looking for! We will be posting on our @madeformeliteracy instagram to get teaching input very soon!
